Hey G.I.F.T.S. I have just recently watched The Help. It is about an aspiring author writing about the African-America maids point of view on working for a white family in the 1960s. Skeeter the writer in the movie is played by Emma Stone. The movie is based on the book written by Kathryn Stockett. In the movie Skeeter returns from college eager to be a journalist. But for a turn she interviewed a black women Aibileen Clark played by Viola Davis. Starting her book many others come forward to share there stories. When the book is published many are scared and pleased on the outcome. Skeeter was offered a job in New York and took it. I say it was such a great movie and totally recommend for people to watch it. And Happy New Years everyone. =)

So a few weeks ago I watched this video by Sean Quigley, a grade 11 highschool student. He filmed, directed, edited, recorded, and mixed everything in his cover of the Little Drummer Boy, as well as singing and playing in his own video. I find this video is inspiring for people who like to make and edit videos.

Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows

Hey GIFTS, just watched the new Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows. It was a great movie. Visually stunning, with a good story. Still has that great charm seen in the first film. And the special effects are AMAZING. Heres a little behind-the-scenes video showing how they pulled off some of the more complex scenes. I would advise you to watch the full movie before watching the behind-the-scenes. Enjoy!

Hey G.I.F.T.S!!! Soooo I live in victoria, and well we’re not supposed to get snow. Movies always make snow out to be a winter wonderland, and well lets just say in reality it’s not all its made out to be. Movies lie!!!!! The black and white movies like Pleasantville, and leave it to beaver to pure perfection. Media implants a thought in viewers minds that what they see on TV is normal, but if someone isn’t like that then they’re a misfit. TV is the reason we have peer pressure and why it sometimes works. Don’t let the media con you into thinking that you are not perfect.

Advertising-a smart idea

Hi! The media that I consumed this month was a commercial for a new barbie doll. I would think that the age group for this toy is 5-6 years of age, but the girls in this commercial were 10-11 years old. At first, I thought that this was just bad casting, but then I realized that they had done this on purpose, because the 5-6 year old girls want to be just like the 10-11 year old girls. I think that this is a very smart idea. Thank you!

Alexander’s Preview of The Festivals #0

I was stunned & ecstatic when I gazed into Garden City’s Monday Magazine this weekend to see the 1st promotions for this years 18th Victoria Film Festival(V.F.F) because actress Linda Blair, who grotesquely portrayed the 12 year old little girl Regan who was possessed by Lucifer (The Lord of The Flies) in The Exorcist, based on William Peter Blatty’s horrific novel of the same name will be here.
Before I even knew her infamous name I fell in love with her in this film! She terrified me as a kid, causing shivers to creep up my spinal remains. She had the most blasphemous, atrocious & perverted dialog in this flick! (which I will not quote, but may reconsider after Marky Mark’s review of Teeth that makes me want to watch it even more!)
She stuck her tongue out at priests & cursed their Mommas, she vomited & urinated all over the place! The scene where she crawls backwards down the stairs still possesses the Sinematic power that causes me to briefly look away!
This astounding & beautiful actress will be here in Victoria for the 10th & 11th for a Q & A followed by an Exorcist screening at the Capital 6(66) theatre. The next day you will have the privilege of meeting her, taking photographs & posing for you’re photos. Of course I shall be in attendance so I can add another signature to my presently small collection. All proceeds go to her World Heart Foundation, an organization that rescues and helps care for abused animals. So buy you’re tickets now, It’s for a good cause.

Bewitched

Hey G.I.F.T.S!! Happy new to everyone! Over the school break I was watching an old show that many know very well and others, well not at all… bewitched! I watched the whole 7th season, and you know what? I think it was great, others may say its just silly old shows. What I realized is that you have to appreciate all of the special effects they did back in the old days, with so little software to what we have now. It’s absolutely brilliant.

Never Let Me Go

Hi, G.I.F.T.S.! Happy New Year!
This month I’m sharing a movie that I’ve just watched a few days ago. “Never Let Me Go”, directed by Mark Romanek, is a love story that ends in tragedy.
It’s much unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. The cinematography is beautiful and the script is smart. Absolutely love it!
The story revolves around characters that are raised at Hailsham. These characters are later revealed to be used as organ donors once they reach early adulthood. They must face their lack of time and find the ones they truly love before their donations take their life. Very sad, but very touching.
