Hey, so I spent a week in Las Vegas at the NAB conference looking at new gear... I figured I'd let you guys know whats coming down the pipe. This is going to be fast and nasty.... Canon: Released a new prosumer camera called the XF305, it is a cmos based camera that records up to 50 mbps. It will be Canon's flagship prosumer camera with a price tag of $8000. check it out on B&h.com. Might have a replacement for the 5D in the next year. (remember 5D is 2 years old already) Panasonic: Had a great prototype of a new camera coming out in december, it uses their popular M4/3s processor pretty much shoved into a prosumer video camera body. Not much details but It will be listed for around $6500 - $7500... They had a bunch of 3D bullshit there but really thats just a bunch of garbage (in my opinion) JVC: same old... Pushing 3D tv's. Sony: same old... Pushing 3D tv's. EX3 seems pretty cool, but its been out for awhile. Nikon: Now this is not from NAB, but apparently they are set to release 2 new DSLR's that will have the ability to shoot HD footage like their rival Canon. A new DX format midrange camera 16 - 19 mp pretty much an upgrade for the D90. The other is rumoured to be a replacement for the D700, so a full frame 20 - 24 mp camera. This is all rumour that I follow because I am a nikon fan. Also if you're in the market for a technocrane they list between $250,000 to $750,000. They are sweet, got to play with one. Lots of cool new LED light kits, they give off this fantastic soft light and they also have the ability to change colour temperature 3200k to 5600k. They are inexpensive as well!!! Good buy for sure. Go Pro: Great little HD cameras that you can strap to a helmet or glue to a surfboard, capture in 720p. Footage actually looked good and they sell for around $250 - $300. Great investement for any extreme sports. Tons of cool new stuff coming out for the DSLR's that shoot HD. It seems to be a great new market that is really expanding. Cheers, Ryan. |

Oh and I forgot to mention something I've been waiting for a very long time. RED is releasing their "Scarlet" around sept/oct. Hopefully. That will run you about $5000 with the fixed lens and some accessories. But if you upgrade anything your gonna have to dump some serious cash into this system. Dont know what it is? Just google "Red Scarlet" |
