Overview:

Starting May 1st watch Classic GIFTS films every day for 7 weeks www.youtube.com/giftsfilms.

Each week GIFTS will also be airing 7 Workshops from industry professionals and the following week will feature Classic films under a specific theme or genre.

In addition to these great tips and movies, we're also giving away 7 Scholarships to GIFTS the Canadian Indie Film Camp and...a Grand Prize Choice of 1) a Vacation 2) a Video camera or 3) a Media Computer!

Workshops:

Starting May 1st at YouTube.com/GIFTSfilms

Industry Professionals speak about their experiences every Monday for 7 weeks for GIFTS media producer's tutorials. These short (2 to 5 minute) workshops will cover 7 curriculum significant topics hosted by 7 industry pros beginning May 1 st for 7 consecutive weeks. The tutorials will be followed by 7 (tutorial relevant) GIFTS classic movies on our new www.YouTube.com/GIFTSfilms channel. 2-5 minute videos will be posted on the GIFTSfilms YouTube Channel every Tuesday for the School Week. Media teachers and film instructors will be able to integrate these workshops into their classes and can even use the contest itself as a class project or homework!

YouTube Contest:

Create your own video and enter the contest:

Make a video my any means necessary! Enter an old video, or make a new one! Make a Vlog of yourself talking about why you want to go to the school, recite a poem or a song you wrote. If you don't have access to a video camera make a text only video with video editing software (almost every computer has it!). Just get a submission in there and you'll get the chance to win a Scholarship to Canada's Indie Film Boot-Camp for a week!     1. Join our YouTube group
    2. Subscribe to GIFTSfilms YouTube Channel
    3. Add a movie to our GIFTS Lucky 7 group on You Tube
    4. Include the following text when filling in your video information
    5. Fill out the Contest Registration form.

Prizes:

7 Scholarships:

The contest runs for 7 weeks starting May 1st and each week we're giving away a FULL TUITION Media Intensive Program SCHOLOARSHIP to the 7 videos that show the most creative potential and passion for film making. Production value does not matter, we'll teach you that when you win the contest and come to the school for a week!

GIFTS Lucky 7 Contest runs from May 1 - June 25th 2007.

Each of the 7 Scholarships are for a week long Media Intensive Program (MIP) at GIFTS. Full Tuition value is $740.00! Transportaion to Galiano Island, expenses, and Room & Board at the School ($295.00 for the week) must be covered by the winners and is not included in the prize. Winners of the scholarships must be at least 11 years old to attend the film school. See the GIFTSfilms website for details about the various focuses of the Media Intensive Programs.

  • May 7th the first Scholarship was awarded to the very passionate Tony Stockart film "Noice Mate!"

Grand Prize:

The Grand Prize will be given away on June 25th, one week after the final scholarship is given away. The Grand Prize goes to the contest video that fulfills all the contest requirements and has the most views gained during the contest. Videos must be uploaded to YouTube after May 1, 2007.

The winner recieves:

A FULL TUITION SCHOLARSHIP to the month long Independant Media Producers Program

   AND

Chooses one of the following additional Grand Prizes:

1- A weeklong trip to San Juan Del Sur on the Pacific Coast complete with personal surfing lessons!
2- A brand new laptop ($1000 max) with video editing software to help you create videos.
3- A new video camera ($1000 max) to film even better videos.

* For videos with multiple creators a monetary prize of $1000 can be split between them.

Winner of the Grand Prize must be 18 or older in order to attend the Independant Media Producers Program at GIFTS or to take the trip to San Juan Del Sur. If the winner is under 18 years old they may substitute a weeklong Media Intensive program for teens or pre-teens. Transportaion to Galiano Island, expenses, and Room & Board at the School ($995.00 for the month) must be covered by the winners and is not included in the prize.

For instance, as of the 4th of May you no longer have to change your tags each week to be eligible for the next weeks Scholarship award. The Week entry tag has been removed from the required steps to win. Also note that any videos must be uploaded to You Tube after the 1st of May 2007 to be eligible to win any prizes.

If, in the organizers' opinion, there is any suspected or actual evidence of electronic or non-electronic tampering with any portion of the Contest, or if technical difficulties compromise the integrity of the Contest, the Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to void any entries at issue (including disqualifying any individual who tampers with the entry process), and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest, in whole or in part, at any time without notice.
