Digital Video Effects

Have you ever wondered how videos manage to merge live action, animation and special effects so seamlessly? This course is designed for students who wish to explore video as a special effects medium and provides the skills needed to produce professional-quality videos with maximum creative potential.

Using software such as Adobe AfterEffects and Premiere, students produce a 2-4 minute experimental video. Extended time devoted to manipulating video in post-production gives the creator extensive control over an image's color, size, position and shape, not to mention the myriad of digital effects that can be applied. The course also explores the chroma key (blue screen) compositing technique, used by Hollywood to superimpose one live image over another manufactured one. Finally, students have the opportunity to sound-mix using non-linear sound editing software packages.
