About Production Streams
Basic points to remember:
GIFTS runs one session at a time, so we have to offer courses for different production streams, ages, etc. at different times. Some streams and the Early Teen session run only once per year. Depending on your age category and interests, you will have a limited number of choices.
You can use the navigation bar on the left of the registration pages to access the course calendar, which lists the dates of the courses in a chart that allows you to plan more easily.
Students wishing to take more than one session in a row may require extra planning to work out when it is possible to attend. It is not unusual to take the same production stream twice in a row, as each week results in a different video and different challenges. We encourage those taking more than two sessions to explore other production streams.
Registration is first-come-first served, so it is worthwhile putting your deposit down to hold a spot early. If you aren't sure which date you should pick, register for one of your choices later in the year and let us know that you may ask to change dates. There is no financial penalty for changing your registration date.
Each session is one kind of program: week-long sessions are always our Media Intensive Program (MIP), for instance. A program may be offered many times a year, or once a year. Each program offers a variety of production streams.
A production stream determines what kind of video you will be making and how you will work; a Computer Animation stream means that you will work in a team of eight to produce a one to two minute 3D animation, for instance. Each session offers at least two and usually three or four production streams. You must pick one stream per session. You can change streams before the session without any financial penalty, if space is available.
Limited spaces are reserved for each stream in a session. You can have a different stream in the same session as your second choice, even though the online registration doesn't allow it: just tell us using the comment field at the bottom of the last registration page.
