SWARM 6: FESTIVAL OF ARTIST RUN CULTURE
Thursday, September 8, 2005
Video screening of “editSix” by The Cue Up Collective:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“editSix” borrows from the tradition of add-and-pass-on art to combine the efforts of six practicing video artists into one presentation where no one artist has final control over the outcome. What emerges is a complex video tapestry where contributions resonate with their distinctive ideas but combine to form a uniquely organic expression strengthened by the talents of the participants. The "director" is an amorphous conglomeration of the talents of six participants.
“editSix” challenges notions of authorship and creative control by undermining the idea of video artist as solitary creator. “editSix” reaches past modernist notions of place by creating and presenting a video simultaneously from six "locations". Each artist works alone, but works with the same raw material. The final creation is more than a sum of parts. It is unique and an expression of collective intent.
The Cue Up Collective hosts monthly non-curated video art screenings at Video In Studios. Cue Up*s mandate is to inform the local community of the wealth of talent within its boundaries, by providing a public, non-juried venue for emerging or established artists to screen their work and to receive feedback.
Cue Up encourages participation, discourse and information dissemination through an online forum at www.videoinstudios.com/cueup

Robert Lawrence, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Electronic Media at the University of South Florida will be stopping in Vancouver to present his current project, Un Message Evidemment. This ongoing collaborative film/performance, is a story about communication. U.M.E. examines and attempts to change the structure of filmmaking by being written through phones, sms’s, email, conversations at festivals, workshops, or through www.unmessage.com. There ultimately is not one story or one film. Anyone can download footage and make their own film resulting in a number of hybrid minimalist whammy-films.
