Have you ever wanted to show Hollywood how YOU would make movies? Here's your chance. The most popular of GIFTS courses, the drama program takes you through every step necessary to producing your own 2-4 minute piece.

The course starts with a scriptwriting session, where you'll learn how to format a script, use video gear, acting-for-camera techniques, as well as how to direct others. Once you've got your script finished, you'll learn the importance of storyboarding each of your shots, so you won't be wondering what to do once you get to the most important stage: the shoot.

During the shoot you get the opportunity to be on both sides of the camera, acquiring both technical and creative skills. Once you've got your production "in the can" it's time to move on to editing. Using GIFTS digital non-linear editors, you'll learn how to fit your scenes together in ways that you never thought possible.

Course Schedule:

  • Sunday: Students arrive on Galiano Island (you will be met at the terminal by the film school bus); check into rooms; introductions & ice breaking exercises.
  • Monday: Media Literacy, Visual Storytelling, Improv, Acting and Scriptwriting workshops. Complete first draft of script.
  • Tuesday: Tech workshops: camera, lighting and sound. Complete final draft of script; Storyboarding the script & pre-production.
  • Wednesday: Acting on camera, on-location shoots, begin post-production - digitize and log source footage.
  • Thursday: shoot, begin post-production.
  • Friday: Editing, sound design, creation of credit sequence.
  • Saturday: Public Screening of the videos. Family and friends are welcome to attend. Catch the ferry home.
