Fear of a Blank Planet

Fear of a Blank Planet is the ninth studio album by British progressive rock band Porcupine Tree. Let me start by saying this album is unbelievably good. Fear is heavier and more complex than their previous albums, and is very reminiscent of a Tool album. No doubt the crowning achievement of this album is the 18-minute centerpiece “An…esthetize” which is probably one of the best songs ever recorded. The recurring theme in the album is the desperate state of today’s society, and our youth being drugged by media, money, and drugs. It may be melancholy, but Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree founder, lead guitarist, singer, songwriter, and all-around musical genius) makes it fantastic. I have only been listening to Porcupine Tree for about a year now, but I instantly fell in love when I listened to their album In Absentia. So if you want something complex, melodic, yet still powerful, I suggest buying one of PT’s CDs. Porcupine Tree is the Pink Floyd of this generation.
