“I’m Curious to See if Media Has Become…Something to Me”

Today I ran around town spending way too much money on zipcars (that’s a stock I should buy) trying to amass cables and computer add-ons in order to enable a live streaming performance exhibit tomorrow. I built a website this week on my own for the first time (ok it was easy with wix, but still).

My house recently upgraded to cable and someone introduced me to the über app, which I now predict will become an addiction for most women, myself included. My life is layered in medias. Each passing day represents a change toward what I presume is the “betterment” of these medias and things, and I can feel it tangibly but subtly.

As I said, I’m exhibiting a performance piece starting tomorrow. I’m arriving at a gallery in Toronto with nothing. Underwear, really. But nothing else. The computer/camera for the live-stream will be set up, and then I will be left to my own devices in a white room. People can watch and come visit - the idea is to have them come visit, actually. But as a tangent of what’s to come- I’m interested in the idea of being without media. No phone, no tv, no access to internet. It’s only 5 days, but it’s 5 days without layers. I’m curious to see if media has become…something to me. An addiction, maybe? An armour? Maybe nothing quite so dire - maybe a perfume or a scarf. I guess we’ll see.
